Where to eat KOSOVO 🇽🇰 Olten: Qebaptore Grill

Qebaptore Grill, Olten

Käppelistrasse 6

What we ordered: For two persons: two mixed grill plates consisting of a pleskavica burger, vishlle sausage, two pieces of cevapcici, sucuk sausage, filets of chicken and veal, served with a side of feta, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage and ajvar. The plates came with bread and we ordered two beers.

Cost: 48 CHF / €50 / $54

Located in a quiet neighborhood on the old road from Olten to Aargau, Qebaptore Grill is essentially a neighborhood place run by immigrants from Prizren and nearby villages. It is in an area that clearly has many immigrants from the Balkans, many of whom have also become Swiss.

The service was friendly and relaxed and the outdoor terrace was perfect in the heat. The food was good quality, unpretentious and on par with everything you would expect to find in Kosovo in a friendly neighborhood establishment. It was fresh, unadorned and truly tasty.

Of the meats on the mixed grill plate, the sucuk surprised. The cevapcici was excellent and likely my preferred element of the plate. The bread was fluffy and complemented the cheese and ajvar. About a third of my grill plate went unfinished and when I asked to take it home, the waiter slipped in some fresh bread – a nice touch of Balkan hospitality.

Qebaptore Grill gets high marks for the affordability and friendliness of the service. A mere 15 minute walk from the train station means a stopover in the city of Olten for a bite to eat at Qebaptore is recommended. Olten is on major train routes between Bern and Basel as well as Bern and Zürich and about 30 minutes from all three cities. For students and those on a budget, it is a dream. Such food at a reasonable cost is hard to come by in many of Switzerland’s pricier cities.
